Selling Books – November 2009 Results

by Forest on December 1, 2009

What a slow month of book sales!  I did get out shopping once and picked up a few winners.  I also had a friend ask me if I could sell a few of his books, but most of them weren’t worth very much.  I signed up for the book scouting service again this month which costs me $30 every month.  For the most par I continued to sell off old inventory.  Now I really need to get out there and get some fresh stock!

Selling Stats

Number of Sales:  36

Sales:  $263.07

Shipping Credit:  $135.66

Inventory Costs:  $67.39

Amazon Commission:  $85.39

Shipping Costs: $87.32

Scouting Fee:  $30 (Recurring monthly fee)

Amazon Marketplace Membership:  $39.99 (Recurring monthly fee)

My Brother’s Commission:  $32

Friend’s Commission:  $20

Total Profit: $36.64

Best Sale of the Month was:

A really boring-looking math textbook about probability.  My brother had bought it for $5 at a thrift store and we sold it for $33.85.

Definitely not the best month I’ve ever had, but it’s always nice to make some extra money.  I plan on doing a lot more book hunting in December which will hopefully increase my inventory and in turn my sales.  Wish me luck!

Hey Forest,

Yep – we signed up for swagbucks using your link, but I am not sure how it works and am having a tough time figuring out how to earn points. Any tips would be appreciated.

We used to sell books the same way, but lately have cut back. Still have a few in inventory backlog.
