Net Worth Update – June 2009

by Forest on June 1, 2009

At the beginning of every month I like to go over my finances and see just what happened in the previous month.

Here’s a look at how my net worth fared through May 2009.

SAVINGS

My savings was down over $1,000.  The main reason for this is the $500 deposit I put down for the photo booth rental for our wedding reception.  It was also down because I transferred $1,000 from my Emergency fund to my Vanguard fund.  I really wish I could have gained in this category, especially considering it was a three paycheck month.

INVESTMENTS

All of my investments were up in the month of May.  Another good month for the stock market.  It’d be really nice if we could keep this going, but I’m not yet convinced.  My Prosper peer 2 peer lending account continues to decrease because as I get repaid, I am withdrawing my funds reallocating them.

RETIREMENT

All of my retirement accounts (I have 3) recorded gains in the month of May.  They weren’t huge gains, but they were gains nonetheless.

STUDENT LOAN

I took another $150 or so off of my student loan last month.  This, my only liability (I don’t include my house in my net worth), continues to dwindle ever so slowly.  It seems like it’s going to take forever to pay off, but that’s okay.  I know I’ll get there eventually.

Overall, my net worth was up $1,380 (+3%) in the month of May.

I’ll try to continue this trend, but as the wedding gets closer, I know my spending is going to increase.

Woohoo! Even with the wedding expenses, you’re making good progress.
