Back in November, we attended a silent auction benefit for a friend with cancer. Bird and I went into it knowing we wanted to donate anywhere from $300 to $400 which would come from our monthly money designated for Giving. While checking out the silent auction, I noticed the only items I really wanted were two sets of MN Wild tickets.
Long story short: I won both sets of tickets, one for $125 (January game) and one set for $150 (March game). The crazy thing is that this was below face value for each set and one set also came with a parking pass (about a $10 value).
I really like watching hockey. Wild tickets are some of the hottest tickets in town making them hard to come by for a reasonable price. Therefore, I only go to one or two games a year and this year I actually had no plans to go. So this was kind of a win-win. Help a friend and go to some hockey games.
Then Christmas comes along and Bird and I exchange gifts. She hands me a little box that is extremely light and I open it to find Wild tickets! She went on to explain how she had purchased them before the silent auction and was so excited to surprise me. I went and blew it by buying my own tickets at the auction! Oops! But at least it was for a good cause.
Tonight is the game that Bird bought tickets for. We carpooled to work today and are going to grab Thai food in St. Paul before the game. The Wild play the Flames tonight, which is Krystal’s favorite team, so let’s hope the Wild can really work them over.

This happened to me one year when buying my boyfriend a birthday present. It’s just another reason why I find gift giving stressful.
Aw! But if you really, really like hockey, that’s three games you get to go to. Hopefully, Bird understands =) Another sports tixx story — bought hubby tixx for a Nets/Celtics game in NJ for his birthday. His dad then exchanged those tixx for 2nd row seats (for free!), refunding me my money. It was last January, and I’m still a bit slighted!
It’s true, I do like hockey, but since I don’t go to many games I would have liked them to be a bit more spread out to make it seem more special. As it is, I’m going tonight and again next week! But it’s all good. I’m pretty excited!
GO FLAMES GO! GO FLAMES GO!
Awesome silent auction wins! Games are so expensive here in Vancouver, but both my boyfriend and I are obsessed with hockey, so we try to go to at least 3 games a season. If only to boo the Canucks (we are both huge Canuck haters). We’re going to Calgary next week to see Flames/Penguins. Should be good. Can’t wait to heckle Crosby!
Well, Krystal, at least we have hating the Canucks in common. My first set of tickets from the auction is for next Wednesday’s game against the Canucks. So that should be fun!
Another Flames fan here – I’ll be rooting for them!!
I think it’s pretty great that your lady knows you so well she bought you tickets for Christmas! Makes it all the better that you get to see a few games!
That’s a funny story! Hope you enjoy the three games!
