SAVINGS (Checking, ING Savings) -$1,043 to $40,257

Savings took a hit this month, even though we put over a grand into it. We had car repairs, plane tickets and grad school tuition (which I forgot to blog about) to pay for and it all added up.

INVESTMENTS (Fidelity, Zecco, Edward Jones, Prosper and ESPP) -$321 to $12,797

Stock market losses, again. Thankfully, not down quite as much as last month.

RETIREMENT (Roth IRA, Current 401k, Former 401k, Bird’s Former 401k, Bird’s Current 401k) -$1,545 to $56,356

More stock market losses.

STUDENT LOANS +$228 to $26,378

Overall, our net worth dropped another 3% to $83,302.

Still moving in the wrong direction…eternally optimistic that we can turn that around in July!

Here’s a snapshot of our finances as of April 1, 2010.

SAVINGS (Checking, ING Savings) +4,143 to $36,262

Our cash savings got a nice bump from our big tax return and our diligent saving.

INVESTMENTS (Fidelity, Zecco, Edward Jones, Prosper and ESPP) +$210 to $13,287

Would have liked to seen this one go up a bit more, but what can you do?

RETIREMENT (Roth IRA, Current 401k, Former 401k, Bird’s Former 401k, Bird’s Current 401k) +$7,745 to $60,182

Our retirements got a nice boost because I finally got vested in March.

STUDENT LOANS +$228 to $27,062

After I figured out that Bird’s loan was in deferrment, I went ahead and made a payment anyways. We are going to keep knocking these down slowly but surely.

Overall, our net worth was up 18 percent to $82,669.

Well, it didn’t feel like it as we went through March, but it turned out to be a pretty amazing month. Just last month we were crossing the 70k mark and here we went and crossed the 80k mark. Almost 10% of the way to millionaire status. Another highlight this month was crossing the 100k mark in total assets.

Here’s a snapshot of our finances as of March 1st.

SAVINGS (Checking, ING Savings) +710 to $32,119

A decent bump but I would have liked to have seen it go up even more.

INVESTMENTS (Fidelity, Zecco, Edward Jones, Prosper and ESPP) +$1,946 to $13,077

This was mostly market, but I did finally learn how to access my ESPP to see how much is in it, so that bumped us up another $1,300 or so.

I am still missing Bird’s ESPP account info. Figuring it out is not high on my priority list. She thinks she has around $1,500 in hers.

RETIREMENT (Roth IRA, Current 401k, Former 401k, Bird’s Former 401k, Bird’s Current 401k) +$2,077 to $52,437

Markets helped us out here.

STUDENT LOANS +$77 to $27,290

I can’t figure out how to report on my loans. They moved down 77 dollars but does that get a minus sign and red or a plus sign and green. I’m going with green for now because it seems more positive. It’s sad when you pay almost $250 though and your loan only goes down by $77. At least it’s going down.

Overall, our net worth was up 7 percent to $70,343.

Not too shabby considering we had to pay double rent this month on top of paying the tenant back her security deposit. Pretty cool to break the 70k mark!!!

It’s a little late, but here is the state of our finances as of February 1st.

SAVINGS (Checking, ING Savings) +615 to $31,409

Just a tiny increase here.

INVESTMENTS (Fidelity, Zecco, Edward Jones and Prosper) -$47 to $11,131

Investments were down along with the market. I don’t think I really put anything new into the investment accounts in January.

Still missing from the investment calculation is my ESPP account and Bird’s ESPP account. Still haven’t really looked into figuring out how to access those accounts.

RETIREMENT (Roth IRA, Current 401k, Former 401k, Bird’s Former 401k, Bird’s Current 401k) -$968 to $50,360

Again, the market didn’t help us much..

STUDENT LOANS +$199 to $27,367

Nothing special to report.

Overall, our net worth was down less than 1 percent.

There were a few reasons we didn’t see much positive action on our net worth this month. One of them was our trip to Florida which cost right around $1,500. The other one was the fact that we paid Bird’s first semester of Grad School tuition which was right around two grand.

Well, it looks like I missed a Net Worth Update in December, but here I am to start the new year on the right foot. I’ll make it a goal to try to update the net worth every month this year. Here are the numbers:

SAVINGS (Checking, ING Savings) +4,901 to $30,794

Our savings accounts were up almost $5,000 in December. I’m not entirely sure where that all came from, but most of it came from withdrawing $3,000 from the Vanguard account and also from selling a stock position to prepare us for an upcoming (year or two) home purchase.

INVESTMENTS (Fidelity, Zecco, Edward Jones and Prosper) +901 to $11,178

Investments were up last month even though I sold off a large portion of stock. I didn’t invest anything new except for a few more loans at Prosper.com. I withdrew everything I had in a Vanguard account and put it in my downpayment fund. I also finally figured out how much was in Bird’s mystery Edward Jones account (about $3,600). I think we will be withdrawing that in the coming months and adding it to the downpayment fund.

Still missing from the investment calculation is my ESPP account and Bird’s ESPP account. Neither of us currently know how to access our accounts or how much is in them. Oops. Better add that to the to-do list as well.

RETIREMENT (Roth IRA, Current 401k, Former 401k, Bird’s Former 401k, Bird’s Current 401k) +24,115 to $51,328

My Retirement calculation got a huge jump this month because I finally figured out how to log-on and check Bird’s accounts. So in addition to my former and current 401k and my Roth IRA, I have added her former 401k and her current 401k. Sidenote: On December 31, I contributed $1,500 to my Roth IRA to max it out at $5,000 for the year!

STUDENT LOANS - $17,998 to $27,566

For the first time, I added Bird’s loan ($18,192) on top of mine ($9,374) and here is the new number. Both are at relatively low interest rates (2.75% and 2.85%) so don’t look for us to pay these off any time soon.

Overall, my net worth was up almost 22% in the month of December.

Much of the increase this month came from adding Bird’s accounts, but I also added her debt and was pleasantly surprised to see the jump. From now on, I will be reporting on our total net worth as we continue to figure out how to combine our lives and our finances in this young marriage of ours.

Have I really not posted a net worth update since June? No excuses for that–besides wedding planning and getting married, honeymoon, moving in together, etc. Well, as you can probably guess, a lot has happened since June and my net worth has fluctuated accordingly. But now it is November and I am back on my blogging game. Let’s get back on track and check out my net worth as of November 1, 2009. Sidebar graph has been updated.

SAVINGS (Checking, ING, cash)

My savings accounts were up over $9,000 in October. Impressive, huh? Truth be told, most of this came from the fact that Bird and I combined our savings in one joint ING account. Also, we received some wedding gifts (sidenote: for accounting purposes, I’m only adding cash wedding gifts to my net worth – I’m not bothering with the gift cards, there are too many of them (mostly Target) and we haven’t decided if we are going to save them all for something big (TV?) or just buy groceries with them). And lastly, it was a 3-paycheck month in October and that almost always helps the savings!

INVESTMENTS (Fidelity, Vanguard, Zecco, and Prosper)

Investments were down a bit for the month to the tune of about $800 dollars. Mr. Market was the main reason for the decline. Here’s hoping for a better November. I didn’t invest any new funds except for $50 to Prosper. I’ve had a change of heart about peer-to-peer lending and have decided that I will give it another try, but this time I am being much more conservative with my lending and only lending to low-risk borrowers. I got burned too often before.

RETIREMENT (Roth IRA, Current 401k, Former 401k)

My retirement savings accounts were up a little for the month, but technically I think I lost money because they are only up about $200 total and I know I put more than that into my Roth IRA last month. Again, I don’t think the market helped me much here either.

STUDENT LOAN

I took another $150 or so off of my student loan last month and it now sits at $9,662.

Overall, my net worth was up $8,788 (+21%) in the month of October.

We haven’t quite yet combined all our finances, so Bird’s investments and retirement accounts are not factored into this net worth report. Basically, this is still MY net worth, though we have combined our savings/cash holdings and that accounted for the big bump in October. I’m guessing that if we get around to combining our net worth in November, then it should get another big bump from Bird’s retirement accounts, and then I will begin reporting on OUR net worth. As an aside, married life is awesome and I love it!

At the beginning of every month I like to go over my finances and see just what happened in the previous month.

Here’s a look at how my net worth fared through May 2009.

SAVINGS

My savings was down over $1,000. The main reason for this is the $500 deposit I put down for the photo booth rental for our wedding reception. It was also down because I transferred $1,000 from my Emergency fund to my Vanguard fund. I really wish I could have gained in this category, especially considering it was a three paycheck month.

INVESTMENTS

All of my investments were up in the month of May. Another good month for the stock market. It’d be really nice if we could keep this going, but I’m not yet convinced. My Prosper peer 2 peer lending account continues to decrease because as I get repaid, I am withdrawing my funds reallocating them.

RETIREMENT

All of my retirement accounts (I have 3) recorded gains in the month of May. They weren’t huge gains, but they were gains nonetheless.

STUDENT LOAN

I took another $150 or so off of my student loan last month. This, my only liability (I don’t include my house in my net worth), continues to dwindle ever so slowly. It seems like it’s going to take forever to pay off, but that’s okay. I know I’ll get there eventually.

Overall, my net worth was up $1,380 (+3%) in the month of May.

I’ll try to continue this trend, but as the wedding gets closer, I know my spending is going to increase.

If you look at my networthIQ graph on my sidebar, you’ll see a pretty sharp spike UP! My networth JUMPED during March.

I’ll explain how in another post. It did help that the markets were up. But they certainly weren’t up 45% like my networth was.

Okay, to be honest, my networth is up only temporarily because my parents made a large contribution to the wedding fund in March. Like I said, I’ll explain all of that in another post, but it’ll be fun to have a high net worth for a few months and then I’ll have to pay for the wedding and it’ll all come back down to normal. Or who knows, maybe the market will continue to soar like it has toward the end of March.
