Bad News on the Car

by Forest on July 21, 2010

The dealership called this afternoon with two words regarding Bird’s car.

fuel.  pump.

That’s all he had to say and my heart sank and hundred dollar bills started figuratively flying out of my heart.

The estimate:  $650

And just to make matters worse, they don’t have any fuel pumps in stock and one won’t arrive until Monday.  So I guess I’ll be driving the minivan through the weekend.  And on top of all that, the tow from Monday showed up on my credit card statement today: $115.

All this led me to transfer $750 out of our Car Fund at ING dropping it to $2,150.  Long ways to go until we can get a new car!

The good news is my lucky streak has continued and I won a little duffel bag at work today.  Woot!  Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket.

Ack – that’s too bad! You are wise to have a car fund for just such an emergency. And at least you have a nice roomy vehicle avaiable for weekend cruising.

Haha. We are actually going to a party at a friend’s this weekend about an hour away and we’re going to carpool (ie. haul 7 friends in the van)…so it’s coming in handy.

Ouch!!! I wish public transit was better all over the country so we didn’t have to deal with cars :(

I have a big car expense coming up soon…timing belt replacemnt. At least it’s anticipated?

Ohh, the timing belt…I did that one on my Honda a few years ago…but you’re right…it’s a little better when it’s anticipated. Good luck!

sorry to hear that, but still cheaper than a regular car payment.
