About Me

Why I Blog

In 2005, a few years out of college, I googled something about “English majors and money” and I came upon the first personal finance blog I had ever seen.  An English Major’s Money. I was fascinated and I began to lurk on what seemed like hundreds of personal finance blogs.  In time, I began to leave a few comments.  I discovered the community aspect of blogging.  I got hooked.

I’ve always liked money. I’ve always liked to save it. I’ve been called frugal. I’ve been called cheap.

I don’t have a lot of debt – just student loans. I pay off my credit card at the end of every month.

It seems like there are two categories of personal finance blogs.  Those that consist of tips and tricks and stories about saving money, getting out of debt, making money, etc.  And those that consist of people talking about their lives and their money – more diary-like.  This blog definitely falls into the latter category.  But I think every finance blog, no matter what the category, steps into the other category every once in a while.

A little more about me:

I’m a dude. That makes me something of a rarity in the diary-like category of personal finance blogs (or at least it seems that way to me).  I’m 28 and I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  It gets cold up here.

I’m dating engaged married to a girl that I call Bird.  She makes me smile.

I currently own a townhouse that I bought 50/50 with a friend (referred to as C on this blog).  For the most part, I regret that decision.

Why do you regret the decision to buy the condo?

As a former English major, I am glad to see there are a couple of us out there doing financial blogs!
